Youth for Balkan United offers an entrepreneurship program to youth in Bosnia-Herzegovina. We stimulate personal development, empowerment and the develop professional skills. During this program youth from Bosnia-Herzegovina will be coached by students from the Netherlands in working on projects that will improve the future of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Empowerment of Youth in Bosnia-Herzegovina
We believe that the youth has the power and the ideas to provide their country with a better future. We offer them the skills.
Approximately 60 % of the young people in Bosnia-Herzegovina is unemployed. They are often high educated but miss the chances to find proper work. Many young people live in severe poverty, especially in the smaller cities and rural areas. Many young people choose to work abroad to put an end to this poverty. Thus well educated people leave the country that invested in their education and needs them for its development.
Youth for Balkan United believes that this youth deserves a future in Bosnia-Herzegovina. To create this opportunity Youth for Balkan United aims to provide young people the skills they need to for a better chance to participate in society and to contribute to the future of their country. We focus on project management, financial management, promotion, sales and leadership. These skills are often lacking in the traditional high school curricula in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Youth for Balkan United is based on the power of young people: through general social skills such as entrepreneurship, they can play their role in a developing society. With these skills, young people can promote themselves. They can develop and realize their ideas for the development of their society, both nationally and internationally.
Youth for Balkan United is based on non-formal education. The emphasis is on ‘learning by doing’ and ‘learning from each other’. This education crosses national boundaries through intercultural communication and mutual coaching. By joined activities young people, both in the Balkans and in the Netherlands, will become interested in each other’s motivations, habits, capabilities and limitations, thereby ensuring cross-cultural connections.
Equality among youth
Youth for Balkan United is convinced that young people from different groups should be treated as equals. This means that everyone, regardless of social background, nationality, age, gender or religion, can contribute to the society. Each person’s individual qualities, and the qualities of the group as a whole, may contribute to a society in balance.
Students in the Netherlands are offered a position as a volunteer to coach projects run by students in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
We especially look for youth that has the wish to improve the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Youth that is motivated to be pioneer in this change.
Connecting young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina (and other parts of the Western Balkans) with each other and with young people in the Netherlands. Offering young people a platform to network and share ideas and develop in interaction.
Offering young people knowledge and skills for entrepreneurship by exchange activities and seminars. Training young people to develop and realize their own projects.
Offering youth one-on-one counseling and a personal development plan. Starting from their own ideas, skills and experiences instead of offering ready-made projects. Supporting them in obtaining the necessary resources to realize their own project.
Developing a sustainable exchange and cooperation between Dutch organizations and organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina (and elsewhere in the Western Balkans).
These countries have a common history in communism/socialism and have been been part of bloody conflicts and civil war during the nineties following the collapse of Yugoslavia. Effects of these conflicts such as corruption, hate, trauma’s, unemployment and poverty, are still prominent in these countries. The power of youth is an essential factor to change this situation. The young people are the future of the country, together with them Youth for Balkan United contributes to a better future for the Balkan.
Youth for Balkan Untied started with projects and activities in Bosnia-Herzegovina. At a later stage also projects in other countries will be developed. We work on a strong stable network to support the youth inside the country, region and to work in cooperation with youth in the Netherlands.
